Barbara Lewis - Thankful For What I Got - Atlantic - 1968
Written by - Barbara Lewis
Producer and Arranged by - Lou Courtney , Bob Bateman
Detroit native Barbara Lewis' style so undramatic and laid back in this tune is something I've come to love. Late 60s soothing Atlantic flavor so sweet it truly makes me develop a crush on Barbara because she's "got no money either, and that's something that don't really matter..." - and grateful for her fella, I think? What else could be sweeter? Indeed very uplifting, the strings bounce along and the background vocalists kill it in agreeance with her cute positivity. Not many songs like this one and it's amazing how low key it is. And also!.. B. Lewis has splendid songwriting skills. Her 1963 hit Hello Stranger reached #3 in the U.S. Pop Charts and #1 on the R&B charts for 2 weeks. Why label them as R&B charts? or Pop Charts?? especially when she had a skill of combining both and in the end it's just good music.

I wanted to post the lyrics but somebody tell me first if she sings "She's got herself a real live fella" or "She's got herself a real life better"
